The Big Train Show is this weekend and you need to go. This is the last time the show will be held on the Queen Mary and you do not want to miss the experience. This is THE show for the West Coast in 2006. If you have not had the chance to attend the show, this should be the year you do it. It is not too late.

Held on the Queen Mary, Long Beach, CA
Tours: June 8-9 / Show: June 10-11

Big Train Show Check-off list.

  • Shopping List
  • Cash or a cleared credit limit on your credit card.
  • Remember to print out and wear your LSOL Member Badge
  • Visit LSOL.com booth. Across from Aristo-Craft - first floor.

I have been in contact with Brian at the BTS he has told me there are a few seats left on the buses for the tours. If you want to try and get a seat show up at least 30 minutes before depature time at the Queen Mary. This is where the buses leave from. Look for the ticket booth, or people waiting around for buses and see if you can get a ticket.

The clinics are very tight and there are a few tickets left for the USA Trains Banquet, with just a few openings left for the special custom car giveaway at the event. You need to check at the "TICKET OFFICE" to try and get seats for the clinics or the Saturday night USA Trains Banquet.

So how far is too far? Depends on if you fly or drive. I took the time to check SouthWest.com and found there were still flights from Phoenix and Sacramento.

Phoenix to Queen Mary - 7 hours driving - 1:20 minutes by air.
Southwest still has $95 each way tickets to get you there.

Sacramento to Queen Mary - 7 hours driving - 1:20 minutes by air
Southwest still has $103 each way tickets to get you there.

If you need driving directions check out the above link to Google Maps. This will set the Big Train Show as the center point on your map. Just click the To Here text on the middle of the screen, enter your address and see how to get to the show.

If you are driving and you live anywhere in this circle you just might live close enough to drive to the show.

So just what is the Big Train Show? It is one huge Large Scale Train Show. There is over 60,000 square feet located on 3-levels on the boat, the Queen Mary. There are exhibitors, modular layouts, clinics, tours, and a special dinner. There is also the biggest raffle of any show that I know about. There are hundreds of prizes donated by dozens and dozens of manufacturers.
