There are many reasons to go to a Large Scale Train show. There are the bargains, the layouts, the bargains, the friends, and the bargains.

Some of the un-sung heroes of any Large Scale Train show are the people that enter their hand made items in the model contest.

Large Scale Online has sponsored the model contest at the Big Train Show at the Queen Mary and the East Coast Large Scale Trains Show for the last few years. Starting this year we will also be the "Official" sponsor of the model contest at the South East Large Scale Train Show, yep in Perry, GA.

Even though it seems that there are less people that take the time to model, it does not mean that their efforts are in vain. Most of the time these are the same people that we "common people" turn to when we have a question about our Large Scale Railroad. They are the people that can teach us all how to model. Even me, even you too.

So who should care about a model contest?

The People who DO NOT Make Models.

Make sure you take the time to stop by the model contest tables and look at the hard work that people enter. You will be inspired and maybe even motivated to try this yourself.

If you think you have what it takes to be a judge and are going to either show send us an email (info@lsol.com) letting us know that you would like to be a judge. Make sure that you let us know what show you are going to attend.

The People who Make Models.

If you are going to the SELSTS or the BTS in June you should bring something that you have created with your own two hands. There are a few main rules.

  1. You need to have made the item by yourself.

  2. You can not have entered the item in a model contest before. It does not matter if you have won or not.

  3. You may have multiple entries, but no more than two in any one category.

  4. You need to bring your model to the show and enter it by the deadline.

"Why should I enter my creation."

  1. It is a great way to get the recognition you deserve. You have spent a lot of time on your model and people would like to see it. Win or lose.

  2. You have a chance to be rewarded for your effort There are either monitory awards, prizes or ribbons.

What kind of things can I enter? Are there categories?

There are many areas to enter. LSOL uses the same standard categories for both shows. You will need to pick one category for each item you enter. We request that you enter no more than two items per category.
