  • What is Dual Gauge?

Dual gauge track is simply two different track gauges on one set of ties. The third rail is laid inside the large gauge thus both gauges share one common rail

The most common American dual gauge is the 4'8½" & the 3' combination.

Dual gauge is found at interchange points where two different gauges meet to exchange goods.
