I use a hemostat (sometimes called a surgical clamp) to compress the center of the spring but leave the ends free. The hemostat locks to hold the spring securely. Now I can maneuver the spring into its place between the sideframe and the bolster. Once the spring is in position I release the hemostat. You can buy hemostats at some hobby stores. If you have a friend in the medical profession or on a rescue squad, they may be able to give you a castoff hemostat. Often hemostats that are no longer considered good enough for medical use, are perfectly good for the hobbiest. Hope this helps,Dave
