  • Sound Problem with LGB 2019S?

    Posted by Randy Knaub E. Northport NY on January 02, 1999 at 12:01:49: 209-122-192-32.s32.tnt1.smt.erols.com - 209.122.192.32

I have a LGB 2019S That has stopped chuffing. I found a open wire in the tender connector. Its the rightmost wire (goes to the chuff switch on rear axle) at the connector itself. Using needles and a meter its ok to just before the plug. It looks like its open at inside the plug. Is there a source for these connectors? Other then packing the engine off and sending it to LGB. Its over 10 years old. It would most likely be expensive to have it fixed. I would like to get the sound working again. I am good at soldering and could unsolder the existing connector and replace it. Randy

Randy,I had the same problem years ago with my 2019S. The connector can be seperated and wires reinserted into blades of connector. Drop me a line on my e-mail and I may be able to send some images in jpeg. Sorry I don't know how to get them on this web site.

Randy, if you can't get satisfaction or another plug from LGB, is it possible to change out both the male and the female in both the engine and tender to a more readily available set? I have no LGB equipment (except a kitbashed crane car) so am not familiar with the setup. However, it may be worth consideration.

Randy, try fixing it yourself first. Cut the wire and solder it to the plug. The solder likes to flow into the pin hole so be careful. Replacement plugs are not readily available.

If that fails, then send it to LGB. However, there was a change in repair policy last year. They will probably charge you a small fee for the fix, plus the cost of shipping and the time without the engine. So try it yourself first.

    Ken
