I am having some trouble with the type of glue I havebeen using to put together my outdoor railroad buildings....have been using a Duco brand. What is best for long life of these structures? Thanks.Dan Forbes, Indianapolis, IN.

I use MEK (Methyl Ethyl Ketone for most plastics. If in doubt, I then run a bead of Latex caulking compound on the inside corners. Have never had a building come apart when glued this way. Duco cement is not a good plastic cement and is useless outdoors or where exposed to ultraviolet rays.

I have used DAP "Acrylic Caulk with Silicone" very sucessfully. After assembling a plastic building with UHU from the manufacturer or CA, I reinforce the inside corners with wood (say 3/8 X3/8, attaching them with the DAP.Note that the stuff does some in clear (it somes out of the tube white but dries clear). You may not necessarily want the white stuff. And if you can find it, a similar product by UGL is even better.

I use Goop also as Tiny suggested. It also comes in a variety called E-6000. Same thing. It's available at most home centers, hardware stores and craft stores.Bill

I find that the "Plast" brand that comes with the Pola kits works fine.

From comments some months ago, I recall that Pola packs "Uhuplast" which I did not realize was available in this country. In the last year or more, lots of UHU products have become available.

Dan, I use the glue that comes with the kit to put it together, then I seal the inside seams with silicon. This has worked well for me. I also have used Zap A Gap + CA glue for items like chimneys and window frames. I leave my buildings out all year in the NE winters.
