  • What does Large Scale, Garden Railways, G scale all mean?

All are describing the hobby of model railroading in a variety of scales between 1:32 up to 1:13. The reason for the many scales is that different manufactures used the same width of 1 ¾” track to make a variety of prototype trains from 2’ narrow gauge up to 4’ 8½” standard gauge. For the most part modelers are not too concerned with the scale as long as it looks nice and runs well on their layout. The term Large Scale Trains also refers to a size known more commonly as Live Steam Railroading, using a much larger track and trains you ride on.
