  • Do I have to do anything special to run these trains outside?

You should first understand that outdoor layouts are subject to the elements of nature. The most significant to contend with is water. Rain runoff can do a lot of unforeseen damage to a beautifully planned railroad if the design did not provide for heavy rainfalls.
Plan for the elements, domestic and wild animals and access to the layout in various seasons. If your trains will be track powered, study the safety requirements of providing electrical current outside.
