See the local layouts with ease. The Susquehanna Valley Garden Railway Society is sponsoring a bus tour of four area garden railways on Saturday April 5th which are hosting open houses in conjunction with the East Coast Large Scale Train Show. The trip will be in a comfortable 47 passenger tour bus which will depart the fairgrounds at York, PA at 9:00 am.
Our first stop on the tour will be Randy, Sharon and Joey Mower's Greenbrier Cheat & Elk Garden Railway located in Mechanicsburg, PA.
The GC&E was started 10 years ago and has grown to include approximately 375 feet of track and includes dozens of scratch-built structures. The GC&E is based on two logging and coal railroads of the 1930's in West Virginia: Mower Lumber Co. and the Western Maryland Rwy. The GC&E uses battery powered, radio controlled steam motive power.
Our second stop will be Bob McCrea's freelance Oriental Garden Railway in Carlisle, PA.
Bob's railway of about 200 feet of track is centered around a large decorative Japanese pagoda and features a large trestle which allows his trains to be run directly into his garage for storage.
